We really loved our stay in Karel and Wilma's enormous, beautiful, characterful house. We could not have been made more welcome if we had been long lost family members! Our room was delightful and the whole building made us feel as we had gone back in time. The entrance hall of the house is on the street level at the front but from the back, on a much lower street there is an entrance two floors below the front!
There is a charming little garden across the road at the back, where one can relax and where our hosts grow vegetables and keep chickens. It was so relaxing to sit on the spacious terrace with the stunning view and be served with delectable food and wine. The highlight of the trip was the cooking experience in the superb, high ceilinged kitchen with its massive, amazing, multi-storey, larder cupboards. We were encouraged to choose dishes we had not made before not difficult in my husband's case! The village is on the St Jacques de Compostelle route and many of the guests are travelling the route and appreciate something much more refined than the basic bunkhouse approach.
We were sharing a beer on the terrace after our culinary labours and chatting happily with Karel and Wilma when the French party arrived. Karel told us later that they had thought we were family friends of theirs as we appeared to get on so well!
