The site features more than ecologically-benign buildings - including homes made from whisky barrels - generates energy from four wind turbines and boasts a biological Living Machine waste water treatment system. These items are cleverly repurposed by drama and music workshops, clubs, schools and playgroups for arts and crafts, design technology classes and more. The team behind it say these materials they receive are usually thought of as 'redundant' or 'scrap' but in fact can provide a valuable resource.

They're an eco project set up to provide play opportunities, facilities, back-up services, materials and equipment, information, training and specialist skills for children and young people. Hundreds of thousands of children and young people throughout the UK enjoy countless hours of creative fun and learning through the application of waste materials acquired from Grumpy. EcoTales is a not-for-profit environmental arts organisation using film, art and storytelling to raise awareness of plastic pollution. They're best known for their award-winning twisted fairytale about plastic called Glooop, above.
