You might be settling into a new school for Sixth Form, or getting used to having different people around you in your existing school.

You might think that doing six or seven A-levels will look really impressive on your university application, but biting off more than you can chew is bound to do you more harm than good.

The start of Sixth Form is the ideal time to get into some good study habits, as these will help you get the best possible A-level grades, as well as standing you in good stead for university. One of the best things you can do when you start A-levels is to revise as you go along, as this will reduce your revision workload nearer to exam time by ensuring that you learn it properly first time round.

After a class, read up on what you learned to consolidate your new knowledge, and make flashcards with short snippets of useful information on each topic. These will be useful when you revise, both days and months down the line.

Try to utilise as many different resources as you can, as this will give you different ways of looking at the syllabus that will help you absorb information more easily. For example, YouTube is full of videos explaining A-level concepts. PajHolden, for instance, produces useful videos for A-level Economics students. Other kinds of resources you could use might include revision guides, webinars, the library and museums, to name but a few.

A Level Curriculum

Use them productively to write up your notes from class and get homework done, as this reduces the amount of homework you need to do when you get home, and frees up time to spend on reading more widely and developing new knowledge and skills in preparation for university. Each individual student has a different starting point, and therefore different goals and needs, but for many their CAS activities include experiences that are profound and life-changing. All proposed CAS activities need to meet these four criteria. CAS activities should continue on a regular basis for at least 18 months. CAS is not formally assessed but students need to document their activities and provide evidence that they have achieved eight key learning outcomes. We listen to the Student Voice. Its members are encouraged to recommend resources for purchase and use in the LRC. A Scholarship is a prestigious award that recognises a student's academic performance, potential and participation in school life. As role models, scholars will be leading members of the Sixth Form and the broader school community. The scholarships are open on a competitive basis to all candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria.

Administrative / Biographical History

The award of all scholarships will be based on merit. A minimum of one and a maximum of three scholarships will be awarded each year.


In exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of the Principal, additional awards may be made. The value of individual scholarships will be based on declared family income and resources following a set procedure. At the discretion of the Principal, other fees may be waived for new entrants to the School. All awards are subject to annual testing of parental means and may be varied upward or downward depending on parental circumstances. It is designed to allow candidates to demonstrate their potential for outstanding achievement at IB. Only candidates who have performed sufficiently well in the written examination will be invited back for interview.

There is no pass mark as such. The results of the written examination will be considered by the Scholarship Committee and decisions made as to who will be invited back for the second phase of the process. The decision to award a Scholarship will be made by the Principal on the recommendation of the Scholarship Committee. The Board plays no part in the deliberations of the Scholarship Committee or decisions relating to the award of scholarships.
