The methods on this course are based on the Standard English Acol system — a coherent method designed to be easy to use and easy to remember. Standard English Acol is the recommended system for "Bridge for All"; the complete learn and play programme from the English Bridge Union.
Bridge for All is the nationally approved method of learning the game - formally recognised by the Open College Network. It is fully documented in a range of books and supporting books, software and other materials.
Eight of our members used to play Blackwood, but unfortunately the opposition cancelled the fixture; apparently last year Michaels provoked them with a Jacoby transfer. Baron Gerber once brought along Astro, but he was black-balled for removing stamens with his mini-spade. Our esteemed member Benji has not been seen since he went off with two multi-coloured diamonds. You have an open invitation to come and see the GBA.

How To Improve Your Card Play By Peter Holland | Youth World Bridge
The card pictures look a little dark in my black and white Kindle. See both reviews. Most helpful customer reviews on Amazon. What I really want to say is this: Please do not read this book. Well perhaps one day, I will be playing a contract and you will be defending. In an ideal world, none of my opponents would have read this book. It really is that good. Andrew Robson has a special talent, he can explain the key concepts of parts of the game of bridge with clarity in a way that is easy to understand.
The quality of writing and the choice of examples is spot on.

I did not find myself wondering what point he was trying to get over or how the examples worked, they were all clear. I found that a single reading of this book was enough to raise my game markedly but another one or two readings mean that for me, the information is burned deep into my bridge brain. I read the Kindle version of this book which is my preferred format these days but the Kindle formatting is not perfect. That did not detract much from my experience of the book. When I first read this book, I would have rated myself as a competent club player but no great shakes in the tournament game.

Since then, I have moved up and subsequently, I have won prizes in most of the tournaments that I have entered, This book is one of the things that has moved my game up. Andrew Dobson's book on bridge defense is very instructive and easy to follow. He presents a concept and then illustrates it in a bridge hand. Andrew writes beautifully and with clarity. He presents the guidelines, shows the logic then reinforces the lesson with an example from real life.
