Having been a Peace Corps volunteer I can say without a doubt that the vast majority of volunteers are there because we want to help others. We dedicate over 2 years of our lives living in villages and towns, in many cases without running water or descent sanitation facilities making about that an average person in our area would make and they generously set aside a couple hundred dollars a months to help when we get back home and are seeing a job. UCR led the charge in implementing a prep course that is now offered throughout the entire UC system. In over five decades, more than UC Riverside alumni have impacted the world through volunteering with Peace Corps. In order to offer greater support to students considering Peace Corps after college, in Kalu initiated the implementation of the Peace Corps prep course, a skills-building program designed to give a greater competitive edge to Peace Corps applicants.
